The Genre:
Fantasy, Alternate Universe, Vampires, Ogres

The Plot:
From the author's site - "A mysterious fleet of pirate vessels sails the waters of the Lhazaar Principalities. But instead of plundering riches, these raiders steal people. Entire settlements have been emptied of their inhabitants, and a number of ghost towns now dot the coasts and islands of the Principalities. Are the pirates of this Black Fleet simply slavers, or are they abducting people for a far more sinister purpose? Diran Bastiaan, priest of the Silver Flame, and his companion, the half-orc warrior Ghaji are determined to find out. And when they do, Diran will show the raiders why he’s called the Blade of the Flame."

The Review:
I have to admit that I was dissapointed in this book. From the cover and the blurb I expected a great fantasy novel. I swear this is so full of cliches you feel like you've seen it all before. This wouldn't be so bad if the author had managed to suck you in with his writing. Instead, this feels as if it was written by a teenager for a young adult audience, and I don't think it was meant to be that. Nonetheless, I find myself wanting to keep reading the series, much like you can't help but want to watch Part 2 of cheesy movie. The main characters are somewhat cool enough to make you want to revisit their world again so I guess I will keep an eye out for the sequel.

The Verdict:
This is a very light read along the lines of a summer popcorn flick. I say read it if you have nothing in your TBR or if you are looking for something light and fast. A 3 out of 5.

About Me

My photo
Since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with books. Early photos show me with a book in hand, even if it was not exactly my reading level... My first word was a made-up word meaning 'book', actually. I suppose I had my priorities at an early age... Over the years my interest in books has become one of the defining features of who I am as a person. You can probably call me a bookworm. While I have other interests, reading will always be the one I talk about the most, even if I am not focusing on it as much as I used to.
